ADHD
Beside impairing people’s ability to stay focused and causing them to have behavioral symptoms, such as hyperactivity, ADHD is a condition that causes people to feel anxious, depressed, develop addiction issues, struggle to complete school, keep a job, engage in impulsive spending, risky sexual behaviours and have unstable relationships. ADHD affects all areas of life. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects how the brain processes information and stimuli. Those who are struggling with ADHD may have memory deficits and experience a constant flow of thoughts. The impulsivity associated with ADHD can affect people’s expressive language, as they may respond without fully processing the information, leading to incoherent or disorganized speech.

The treatment of ADHD
The treatment typically involves medication (stimulants), learning skills to improve executive functioning skills, which are crucial tools for managing time, maintaining focus and regulating emotions. Understanding and improving these skills will enhance personal and professional life. As often times ADHD is not diagnosed until adulthood, especially the inattentive type, some people start developing symptoms of depression, anxiety, they may start consuming drugs and have interpersonal issues. Therapy is needed in order to focus on these issues. CBT is a structured type of therapy that teaches people skills to change their negative thinking, behaviours and emotions.
